Journalist Md Kamruzzaman Honored at New York Bangla Book Fair

Md Kamruzzaman, widely known as Babu Kamruzzaman Special Correspondent at News24 Television, has received international recognition for his role in advancing public discourse through journalism. He was awarded by the Muktodhara Foundation at the 34th New York International Bangla Book Fair, held at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center on May 26, 2025.
Known for his deep dives into economic policy, governance, and marginalized communities, Kamruzzaman was honoured for “bridging the gap between policy and public voice” in Bangladeshi media.
A highlight of the event was a panel debate titled “Life Abroad is Incomplete,” where Kamruzzaman represented the opposition side alongside Dr. Birupaksha Paul and debater Mitali Das. The debate was moderated by veteran broadcaster Rokeya Haider and featured thought leaders including Dr. Nazneen Ahmed (UNDP), Prof. Shamim Reza, and journalist Kaberi Maitrya.
The recognition cresst was presented by Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, Chairperson of the Muktodhara Foundation, who praised Kamruzzaman for his efforts in promoting thoughtful dialogue across borders.
Kamruzzaman has previously been honoured with the AmCham Frontline Journalism Award and ERF’s Best Reporting Award. His reports have focused on post-pandemic recovery, financial inclusion, and climate justice, drawing wide appreciation in national and international forums. Recently he covered the IMF-World Bank Spring Meeting 2025.
